History

Chiampa Dance Center is one of the only dance schools on the North Shore that has been in continuous operation for over 75 years. The school has seen generations of dancers, instructors and choreographers grace its dance floors with their enthusiasm, talent and love of dance.

In 1937 Lillian Arden Chiampa opened a small dance school in East Boston. She taught ballet and pointe, tap, jazz and acrobatics. Miss Chiampa quickly developed a reputation for excellence and as her business grew she shared her passion with her daughters who became instructors and eventually directors of the school. Daughter "Ms. Karyn" Laurano took the helm of the East Boston school which remained open until 2000 and daughter Jeannine "Mrs. T." Trigilio expanded the business to Lynnfield, MA which allowed North Shore residents the opportunity to study from the same remarkable staff that brought the joy of dance to some many East Boston students. For over 30 years "Mrs. T" expertly taught classes and ran the Lynnfield studio while simultaneously being a school teacher and vice principal in the Peabody School System.

In 2004 Mrs. T started grooming her student, Terrie Bater, to someday take over the Chiampa Dance Center and after an extensive mentorship passed the business on to her longtime student. In 2012 Mrs. T officially retired from Chiampa Dance and Miss Terrie became the Director.

Today, Chiampa Dance Center continues to offer quality dance instruction in the areas of ballet and pointe, tap, jazz and acrobatics. Additionally we offer classes in contemporary, children's combo classes and Adult Ballroom dance. The traditions that we uphold and the respect we show for our students and for our craft is what keeps children and former students' children coming back to Chiampa year after year.

At the Chiampa Dance Center we believe that all students learn best in a safe, structured, nurturing environment. We strive to teach students proper technique and terminology interspersed with dance and theatrical history to broaden their understanding of the art form. As educators, we pride ourselves on understanding the physical and emotional development of children and adolescents. We create lessons that help students learn to dance and about dance while developing positive self-awareness, poise and self-confidence. We encourage students to push their bodies and their minds to reach their fullest potential. Because of our belief that every child can succeed, the Chiampa Dance Center has become synonymous with quality dance education on the North Shore
